DYMO Makes Organization Easy With Its New LabelPOINT and LabelMANAGER Range of Electronic Labeling ProductsCONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW, LAS VEGAS, 06/01/2001
In a recent survey undertaken by worldwide labeling and identification
specialists, DYMO, more than 70 percent of responding Windows developers
cited the difficulty of formatting text and graphics for label printing as
one of the most challenging situations they face.
Reasons quoted included the difficulty of ensuring that long addresses print
correctly on labels without running off the right or bottom edge, the
growing need to add barcode printing functionality to applications, and
the overall need for simple one-at-a time label printing.
A solution to these headaches is now available, courtesy of DYMOs free
Software Developers Kit (SDK) available from www.dymo.com/developer. The
SDK enables any Windows developer to quickly and easily add label printing
capability to their applications by interfacing with the DYMO LabelWriter
software that comes with every DYMO LabelWriter® printer. Backed by a
growing list of Application Notes and sample programs, it takes just
minutes for developers to integrate label printing into their applications.
One at a time label printing is a fundamental need for almost everyone in the
workplace, says Andrew Newmark, DYMOs Senior Vice President, yet it is one
of the most time consuming things for a developer to add to a software
application. With the DYMO LabelWriter SDK, the days of developers
spending hours, days or even weeks trying to incorporate effective
address, bar coding or technical labeling into their applications are over.
Key features of the DYMO SDK include automatic shrink to fit text facility,
text and graphic rotation, automatic generation of 18 standard bar codes
including the POSTNET® barcode for faster mail delivery, and label
previewing. Customized label printing can be added to virtually any
application in minutes using the OLE interface built into the DYMO Label
software.
Windows developers can use the built-in OLE, DDE or direct DLL calls to print
labels from applications written in Visual Basic, C/C++, Access, FoxPro,
Power Builder Delphi and other Windows development environments. Built in
barcodes include Code 3 of 9 MOD 43, Code 128-A, 128-B, 128-C, 128-Auto,
Interleaved 2 of 5, UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-8, EAN-13, EAN-128, Codabar, ITF-14,
and POSTNET. Graphic formats supported include BMP, WMF, PCX, TIFF, JPG,
and PNG.
To date, DYMOs LabelWriter functionality has been integrated into the toolbars
of Microsoft Word and Outlook, as well as the leading contact management
applications GoldMine®, ACT!®and TeleMagic®. Corex Technologies market
leading business card scanner also incorporates the DYMO technology, as do
hundreds of specialized applications such as the Medical Manager®,
SoftDent®, MatchRite® and McAllister Software's AVImark. In all cases,
users are able to print labels, appointment cards, bar code information
and other data from these programs with just a couple of clicks.
Label printing is entering a new era, concludes DYMOs Newmark. Users are
increasingly less tolerant with the difficulties they face printing out
labels. For such a simple task, users are demanding trouble-free, easy
solutions to their needs.
DYMO offers Windows developers a means of meeting those needs, whether their
clients require labeling in the office, retail store, factory, workshop,
laboratory, medical practice or indeed anywhere which requires an address,
identification or barcoded label.
