Procedure: Below is a procedure to connect the LabelWriter to this HP print server. This procedure has been tested successfully with Microsoft Win98 and Win2000 clients and requires the use of Windows TCP/IP. There is no reason to expect any problem using Windows XP. Windows 95 or Windows NT are not supported. There is no requirement for use of any Microsoft server support. This procedure works fine in NetWare only networks. There are four general steps in doing this installation: 1. Creating the printer port using the HP Print Server install software 2. Creating the printer with DYMO software. 3. Installing the DYMO application software 4. Connecting the printer to the printer port at the printer page. Note: Setting up the printer port software on a server and copying the DYMO CD to the network also can eliminate some steps below.
At this point, make sure the LabelWriter is connected to the printserver and the printserver to the network.

The new software does not delete any preexisting address list data. It creates a new folder called Address Books while leaving intact, the old folder called List Files. Both of these folders are found in the DYMO Label Folder by default.
Solution:
Open Windows Explorer and locate your list files (xxx.dal where xxx stands for the file name) in the old folder. Most probably these files are located in C:\Program Files\Dymo Label\List Files\
Copy these files to the new location: Most probably these files are located in C:\Program Files\DYMO Label v6\Address Books\
The Address file(s) is now listed in DLS 6.

Or an error message is displayed stating that the printer is not installed.
Possible Cause(s):
The naming convention requirement for the LabelWriter has been changed with the DYMO LabelWriter Software (DLS 6.x).
Solution:
When using DYMO Label Software (DLS) 6.x the printer name as listed in the Printers folder must contain the word LabelWriter in order to be seen by the DLS.
When using an older version of DYMO Label Software (DLS) the printer name as listed in the Printers folder must contain the word DYMO in order to be seen by the DLS.
Note: When running both version of DLS the print name must include both DYMO and LabelWriter in order to be seen.
Solution:
Make sure that the latest version of the Mac OS X that's available for your computer is installed.
To check this, open System Preferences and click "Software Update".

An Excel file with this data is used for this example:
When trying to print from the DYMO LabelWriter Software, the value Price is displayed for:
Books as 1,03, Maps as 1 and for Cartoons nothing is displayed.
Add next to column Price a new column
The column header is Pricetext.
In the cell next to 1,03 add this formula: =TEXT(B2;"0,00").
This formula converts a value to text in the specified number format.
Copy this formula to all required cells.
The Excel file now looks like this:
When trying to print from the DYMO LabelWriter Software, the value Pricetext is displayed for:
Books as 1,03, Maps as 1,00 and for Cartoons no stock is displayed.
ACCESS
An Access file with this table (data) is used for this example:
The data type of the 'Person' field is "Text" and the data type of the 'Weight' field is "Number (Double)"
When trying to print from the DYMO LabelWriter Software, the value Weight is displayed for:
John as 95,74, Maria as 57,5 and for Peter as 78.
To solve this problem, create a query in Access. This query is based on your table and consists of the 'Person' field and a calculated field 'WeightText'. The expression for 'WeightText' is:
WeightText: Format$([Weight];"0.00")
This 'Format$' function converts a numeric value to a text value with two digits after the decimal separator.
When running the query it looks like this:
When now trying to print from the DYMO LabelWriter Software with the query selected as data source, the value WeightText is displayed for:
John as 95,74, Maria as 57,50 and for Peter as 78,00.
Step 1: Install and run the file LW310_320_firmware_upgrade_90916_D.exe' to upgrade the firmware to the latest version.
To install and run this file:
Step 2: (Re)install DYMO LabelWriter Software version 4.3x
It is absolutely necessary to (re)install DLS 4.3x or higher and the latest printer driver because this resets a switch in the LabelWriter's firmware.
If not the firmware upgrade will not become effective and the problem will persist!
1. Some USB controllers work better than others in specific system environments. Accordingly, the USB controller driver might need to be updated to ensure optimal performance.
Solution:
This is done by running a patch that can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website.
To find out which USB controller your computer uses:
Usefull links:
For Intel patches: www.intel.com
For Viatech patches: www.viaarena.com (download and install the Hyperion 4 in 1 drivers and the USB Filter patch)
Alternatively, visit www.usbman
2. If the problem persists, the computers version of the BIOS is outdated and needs to be upgraded.
Solution:
Contact the computer vendor and request the latest BIOS version.
3. If the problem still persists, DYMO recommends to connect the LabelWriter via a USB/PCI card.
Solution:
Insert and install a USB/PCI card in the computer.
More info on USB/PCI card can be found at http://www.usbman.com/Guides/usb_2 pci cards.htm
Either the DYMO or the HP printer will work perfectly when connected individually, however when both are connected to an Imac running OS 10.2.5, the Print Center quits when trying to print.
Possible Cause: This is due to some directory permissions that could interfere with printing. The problem appears when print jobs are spooled and do not actually print.
HP is aware of the problem and created a patch to correct it. As stated on the HP web site:
This patch corrects some directory permissions that could interfere with printing. The problem appears when print jobs are spooled and do not actually print (stuck in Print Center)
Go to the HP web site, download and install this patch 2.0-2.0e for OS X. Once the latest drivers are installed both printers can print when connected at the same time.
Note: You may still have to manually install the DYMO LabelWriter printer.
