2. DYMO LabelWriter 310 and 320 cannot be shared over a Windows 95 network. They are both USB printers and Windows 95 does not support USB.

A. Connecting the LabelWriter

1. Connect the LabelWriter to the PC on a free COM port and make sure the power is turned on.
2. Complete the installation procedure for the software.
Note:
- The software will also install and detect the LabelWriter.
- The LabelWriter will be installed locally, on your PC only.


B. Configuring the LabelWriter as a network printer

1. On the Windows taskbar, click the Start button, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
2. The Control Panel window is displayed.
3. Double-click the Network icon.
The Network dialog box is displayed.
4. On the Configuration tab, click the File and Print Sharing button.
The File and Print Sharing dialog box is displayed.
5. Select the I want to be able to allow others to print to my printer(s) check box and click OK.
The system is updated with the necessary files.
6. Restart your computer.
7. On the Windows taskbar, click the Start button, point to Settings, then click Printers.
The Printers window is displayed.
8. Right-click the LabelWriter icon and select Sharing... in the shortcut menu.
The Properties dialog box is displayed.
9. Click the Sharing tab and select Shared as.
Click Add to add the persons you want give access to your LabelWriter printer. When the names have been selected, click Full Access -> and click OK.
10. Click Apply, then click OK.
The LabelWriter printer is now shared as a network printer.


C. How to print from other PC's to the LabelWriter

Important:
If the DYMO LabelWriter Software will also be installed on this PC, you should click Cancel when the Program will now install the Printer Drivers pop-up window appears during the installation of the software.

To print to a shared LabelWriter, you should add the LabelWriter printer driver as follows:
1. On the Windows taskbar, click the Start button, point to Settings, then click Printers.
The Printers window is displayed.
2. Double-click the Add Printer icon.
The Add Printer Wizard is started.
3. Click Next.
4. Select Network printer and click Next.
5. Enter the Network path or queue name or browse to destination path, then click Next.
Click the Have Disk button.
The Install From Disk dialog box is displayed.
Insert the CD-ROM with the DYMO LabelWriter Software in your CD-ROM drive, then click the Browse button and go to the drivers directory and select the appropriate driver for you language.
Click OK, then click OK again.
Select the appropriate printer (e.g. EL 60) and click Next.
Click Finish.
The printer is installed and a printer icon is added to the Printers window.

Using PCONSOLE:
To define the file server

1. From the Available Options menu, select Change Current File Server, and then press <ENTER>.
2. Select the correct file server, then press <ENTER>.

To define the print queue

1. From the Available Options menu, select Print Queue Information, and then press <ENTER>.
2. Select a queue
or
To create a new queue, press <INSERT> (for a new queue), enter the queue name and then press <ENTER>.

To define the print server

B. Capturing the printer

You must capture the printer port and redirect the output to the network in order to use the print queue that you have set up in section A.You can do this either in Windows or from the DOS prompt by entering .

To capture the printer from the DOS prompt

Type capture /s=PRINTSERVER /q=QUEUENAME /l=X nb nff nt
whereby

• PRINTERSERVER is the name if your print server
• QUEUENAME is the name of the queue serviced by the printer
• X is the port that you specify jobs to be sent to (not a physical port)
• nb is No Banner
• nff is No Form Feeds
• nt is No Tabs

C. Using Rprinter

You may decide to connect the printer to a workstation instead of a print server. Novell allows you to do this with a utility called Rprinter. The use of Rprinter with the LabelWriter will be similar to that with a document printer.

Two important notes with regard to the setup of Rprinter are:

• You must use version 3.75 or later of Rprinter
• You must use the forced polled mode switch with the Rprinter command
  (i.e. RPRINTER -P)

Note: If you are sharing your LabelWriter on a Mac network you need to be running OS 10.1 or higher on all the computers (both local and remote). Below are the steps you need to take in order to make your LabelWriter a shared device on your Mac network. These steps must be preformed on both the local and remote computer(s).

1. Go to Apple > System Preferences> Sharing
2. Turn Personal File Sharing On
3. Turn Printer Sharing On
4. Close System Preferences
5. Go to Applications > Utilities> Printer Center
6. Open the Printer Center and your LabelWriter should be there

Note: If you can see the printer but you can not print to it then there may be an issue with the type of network that you have set up. Certain DNS configurations may prevent this issue from occuring.

To resolve this issue follow the below steps:

1. Go to Apple > Location > Network Preferences
2. In the Search Domain window type local
3. Click Apply Now

To install the printer as a USB shared device locally

1. Click Apple Menu, point to Control Panels and click USB Printer Sharing.
   The USB printer Sharing window is displayed.
2. On the tabpage Start/Stop, click the Start button.
   The USB Printer Sharing option is now on.
3. On the tabpage My Printers select the DYMO LabelWriter to be networked.
4. Close USB Printer Sharing.
   Sharing is now complete on the host system.

To install the USB shared LabelWriter on a remote client system(s)

1. Click Apple Menu, point to Control Panels and click USB Printer Sharing.
   The USB printer Sharing window is displayed.
2. On the tabpage Start/Stop, click the Start button.
   The USB Printer Sharing option is now on.
3. On the tabpage Network Printers click the Add button.
   The Select Shared Printer window is displayed.
4. Select Local Network and highlight the DYMO LabelWriter to be networked.
   Note:
   • Shared device may come up under different network name depending on configuration.
   • The DYMO LabelWriter will be identified by the printers' internal ID number, e.g. DYMO010
5. Click the Choose button.
   This will add the LabelWriter under the Network Printers window.
6. Close USB Printer Sharing.
7. Click Apple Menu and click Chooser.
   The Chooser window is displayed.
8. Select the DYMO LabelWriter extension by clicking the LabelWriter icon on the left and clicking the name on the right.
9. Close the Chooser.
   Sharing is now complete on the remote system.

Note: If printing from the remote computer to the LabelWriter at the host site is not possible, it might be necessary to turn File Sharing on. To turn File Sharing on

1. Click Apple Menu, point to Control Panels and click File Sharing
   The File Sharing window is displayed.
2. On the tabpage Start/Stop, click the Start button.
   The File Sharing option is now on.
3. Select the option Enable File Sharing clients to connect over TCP/IP.
4. Close the File Sharing window.
   Printing from the remote computer should now be possible.

Sharing a serial connected LabelWriter

Even though the LabelWriters are neither AppleTalk nor EtherTalk compatible, there is a way to share them on a network. PortShare Pro by Stalker Software is a software solution enabling the use of devices attached to serial communication ports on other computers connected to a network. It can also allow other people to use the devices connected to a Macintosh.

Users only have to select the printer from their Chooser as they normally would, and that is it. Printing takes only a few seconds longer than it would if the printer were connected directly to their computer. There is no need to buy extra hardware and the software can be run on System 7.1 and higher.

Requirements to use PortShare Pro:

• Apple Macintosh Plus or a later model
• System version 7.0 or later
• AppleTalk network
• EtherNet

Remarks:

1. Currently, only the DYMO EL Turbo USB and DYMO LabelWriter 330 Turbo are know to work only with HP 175x Ethernet USB print server.
   DYMO has no knowledge about successfully connecting the LabelWriter 310 or 320 to this print server.
   To connect successfully:
   • Any DYMO EL Turbo with serial number before 17-0064317 will need the flash upgrade 'flash EL Turbo.exe'
   • Any DYMO LabelWriter 330Turbo with serial number starting with 90793 will need the flash upgrade 'flash 90793v0E.exe'
   • Any DYMO LabelWriter 330Turbo with serial number starting with 90884 does not need a flash upgrade.
     All other models should be shared using Microsoft’s printer and file sharing utilities.
2. Only the DYMO LabelWriter Software version 6.0 is compatible with the HP 175x Ethernet USB print server.

Procedure:
Below is a procedure to connect the LabelWriter to this HP print server.
This procedure has been tested successfully with Microsoft Win98 and Win2000 clients and requires the use of Windows TCP/IP.
There is no reason to expect any problem using Windows XP.
Windows 95 or Windows NT are not supported.
There is no requirement for use of any Microsoft server support.
This procedure works fine in NetWare only networks.


There are four general steps in doing this installation:
1. Creating the printer port using the HP Print Server install software
2. Creating the printer with DYMO software.
3. Installing the DYMO application software
4. Connecting the printer to the printer port at the printer page.

Note: Setting up the printer port software on a server and copying the DYMO CD to the network also can eliminate some steps below.

Installing the DYMO LabelWriter Software

1. Start the DYMO Label Software installation
2. Press Next on the Welcome screen
3. Enter the destination for the DYMO Label Software files and press Next
4. Select Install Database Connectivity Add-in and click Next
5. Select Serial (COM) Port as the printer’s connection type
6. When the message appears to install the driver, click OK (make sure no other DYMO LabelWriter is connected to your PC)
7. A message appears saying that the LabelWriter is not found, click Cancel
8. Click Yes on the following message to select the printer and the port manually.
9. Select your DYMO LabelWriter from the list and continue
10. Click OK
11. Click Finish

At this point, make sure the LabelWriter is connected to the printserver and the printserver to the network.

Install the DYMO LabelWriter through the print server installation

1. Start the installation program of the HP jetdirect 175x
2. Click Install
3. Select Wired and click Next
4. Click Next
5. Select Specify a printer by address
6. Select IP address and enter the print server's IP address
7. Click Next
8. Select Configure your own network settings
9. Click Next
10. Select a communication mode for the DYMO LabelWriter and specify the required settings
11. Click Next
12. Choose Select a driver from a list of drivers this PC knows about
13. Select Show only currently installed drivers and select your DYMO LabelWriter
14. Instead of DYMO00... rename it to DYMO LabelWriter on print server
15. Click Next
16. Click Next
17. Verify the printer information and click Install
18. Click Finish
19. Exit all installation programs
20. In the printers folders, delete all DYMO drivers, except the one named 'DYMO LabelWriter on print server'

B. Sharing the LabelWriter 310/320/330Turbo via a Silex print server.

DYMO LabelWriters can also be shared via a Silex print server.
Important: Only model 93029 (310), 93031 (320) and 93033 (330 Turbo) are compatible with these Silex print servers.

How to perform a Flash upgrade?

1. Download the flash upgrade file 'flash EL Turbo.exe' or 'flash 90793v0E.exe'
2. Run through the Wise Installation Wizard by double clicking on this file.
3. Once installed, on the Windows taskbar click Start, point to Programs, point to DYMO Flash Apps and click the Flash upgrade file.
4. Follow the on screen instructions.

To verify the version of firmware in the printer

Connect the LabelWriter to a free serial port

DYMO Label Software includes a database add-in that enables you to print information from a variety of
databases onto labels. Once you install the add-in, you can quickly print address, shipping, file folder, and
other labels from the data in your database.

This example uses an Excell database, named 'Stock' that contains productnames, numbers and prices.
But it can be used as a guideline to print from other databases or using other data.

This is how the Excell file 'Stock' looks like:

To print information from the database to the LabelWriter

1. On the Windows taskbar, click the Start button, point to Programs, then click DYMO Label.
The program is started.
2. On the File menu, click New Label.
The New Label dialog box is displayed.
3. Select the label that is loaded in the LabelWriter (e.g. EU-Large Address Labels (99012) and click OK.
The selected label is displayed.
4. On the Edit menu, click View Design Toolbar.
The Design Toolbar is displayed.
5. On the Design Toolbar, click the Add Text to Label icon and click on the label.
A text field is placed on the label.
This text field can now be resized and placed at the correct position.
6. Double-click the text field.
The Text Settings dialog box is displayed.
7. Check the option Function as Variable Text Object and click OK.
8. Right-click the text field.
The Object Properties dialog box is displayed.
9. Type Name of Product in the Reference Name field and click OK.
10. On the Design Toolbar, click the Add Text to Label icon and click on the label.
A text field is placed on the label.

Set the DYMO LabelWriter as default printer

2. Right-click the DYMO LabelWriter icon and click Set as default.

To Print from Corel WordPerfect to the LabelWriter

1. On the Windows taskbar, click the Start button, point to Programs, then click Corel WordPerfect.
The program is started.
2. On the File menu, click Page Setup...
The Page Setup dialog box is displayed.
3. Click the Size tab and click New
The New Page Size dialog box is displayed.
Choose the correct label size out of the dropdown list in the Paper size option.
4. Enter any name in the Name field for your label.
5. In the Size field, choose the label that is loaded in the LabelWriter.
6. For labels printed in landscape orientation, select Rotated as Font Orientation.
For labels printed in portrait orientation, select Normal as Font Orientation.
7. Click OK.
Your label is added to the list.
8. Click the Page Margins tab and set following margins to zero: top, bottom, left and right.
9. Click OK
The label is displayed on the worksheet .

Data can now be entered on the labels and the labels can be printed to the LabelWriter.

Set the DYMO LabelWriter as default printer (these steps only need to be followed on Mac OS 8.6 up through 9)

1. On the Mac's taskbar, click the Apple button, then click Chooser.
2. The Printers page is displayed. 
3. Click the DYMO LabelWriter icon and select the correct connection type (Serial, uConnect, USB).

To Print from FileMaker Pro to the LabelWriter on a Macintosh

1. Launch FileMaker Pro
2. Select the option Create a new file using a template
3. Select a template
4. Click OK > the Create a copy named window will appear. Type in a file name of your choosing and click Save > the new template window will appear.
5. Go to File > Page Setup > in the Format fordrop down select your LabelWriter (this step is only necessary when you are using OS X) > in the Page Size drop down select the label that you are using > then select Orientation and click OK.
6. Click the New button and enter your data.
7. Go to View > Layout Mode
8. Go to Layouts > New Layout/Report > the New Layout/Report window will appear. In the Select layout type menu select Labels and click Next
9. Select Use custom measurements:

In the Labels across the page field, enter 1
Enter the Height and Width of the label that you wish to use. The maximum usable Height and Width are mentioned on this screen
Select the Fixed page margins option and zero out all margins

10. Click Next and the New Layout/Report window will appear
11. Beneath the Specify Label Contents box select the Available fields you wish to have on your label and click the Add Field button or double click on the file name

Note: You will need to put spaces in between the fields and carriage returns at the end of each line as you desire

12. Click Next
13. Select the View in Preview mode option and click Finish

Note: If a header and/or a footer appear on the label, go to View/Layout Mode and highlight and delete the header/footer

14. Go to File > Print and click OK

Set the DYMO LabelWriter as default printer

1. On the Windows taskbar, click the Start button, point to Settings, then click Printers.
The Printers page is displayed.
2. Right-click the DYMO LabelWriter icon and click Set as default.

To Print from Word to the LabelWriter

1. On the Windows taskbar, click the Start button, point to Programs, then click Microsoft Word.
The program is started.
2. On the File menu, click Page Setup...
The Page Setup dialog box is displayed.
3. Click the Paper Size tab and choose either Landscape or Portrait in the Orientation option
Choose the correct label size out of the dropdown list in the Paper size option.
4. Click the Margins tab and set following margins to zero: top, bottom, left and right.
5. Click OK
6. Click Fix
7. Click OK
The labelsizes are indicated on the worksheet .

Data can now be entered on the labels and the labels can be printed to the LabelWriter.

Launch AppleWorks

Go to File > Page Setup

At the Format for option select the LabelWriter printer

At the Paper Size option select the template (30256 shipping)

Set Orientation to Landscape > click OK

The label template will appear and you will be able to enter the data

Go to File > Print the default settings are at Copies & Pages

Save the label template

• Note: the newly created template was saved under the name Test1

Attempt to print a single label

• Launch FileMaker Pro
• Select the option Create a new file using a template
• Select a template
• Click OK > the Create a copy named window will appear type in a file name of your choosing and click Save > the new template window will appear
• Go to File > Page Setup > In the Format for select your LabelWriter > in the Page Size drop down select the label that you are using > then select Orientation and click OK
• Click the New button and enter your data
• Go to View > Layout Mode
• Go to Layouts > New Layout Report > the New Layout/Report window will appear in the Select layout type menu select Labels and click Next
• Select either Use label Measurement for or Use custom measurements:
  • Note: If you choose Use label Measurements for you will have the option of selecting the preloaded templates
    • 30256 - Shipping
    • 30325 - VHS Spine
    • 30326 - VHS Top
    • 30277 - File Folder
  • Note: For all other templates you will need to select Use custom measurements
    • In the Labels across the page enter 1
    • Enter the Height and width of the label that you wish to use
    • Select the Fixed page margins option and zero out all margins
• Click Next and the New Layout/Report window will appear

Set the DYMO LabelWriter as default printer in the Print Center Open Print Center, select the DYMO LabelWriter and choose Make Default from the Printers menu.
(The name of the default printer is displayed in bold in the Print Center List)

To Print from Word to the LabelWriter

1.  Start the program Microsoft Word
2. On the File menu, click Page Setup...
   The Page Setup dialog box is displayed and contains five items: Settings - Format for - Paper Size, Orientation and Scale
3. Out of the Settings dropdown list select Page Attributes
4. Out of the Format for dropdown list, change 'All Printers' and select the DYMO LabelWriter printer
5. Out of the Paper size dropdown list, choose the correct label size
   Choose the preferred 'Orientation' and 'Scale'

To adjust the margins

1. Out of the Settings dropdown list select Microsoft Word
2. Click on the Margins... button
   The Document window is displayed
3. Set following margins to zero: top, bottom, left and right
4. Click OK
   The following message appears:
   "One or more margins are set outside the printable area of the page. Choose the Fix button to increase the appropriate margins."
5. Click Fix
6. Click OK

The label size is indicated on the worksheet.

Data can now be entered on the labels and the labels can be printed to the LabelWriter.

1. When you use Smart Paste to print multiple labels, the labels will be formatted using the font, size, and style currently selected for the label. 2. When pasting rows of text from a spreadsheet program using Smart Paste, each row is treated as a separate label and each cell in the row is treated as a separate line on the label.

For example, the rows in the following spreadsheet:
