2.2.6.6

  • In most cases, problems are solved by checking these 3 basics:

    1. Are the correct batteries being used?
    - Batteries might be low
    - it is advised to use only Duracell Alkaline batteries with DYMO machines
    - DYMO machines will not work with Carbon type batteries
    - All batteries used in the machine should be of the same brand
    - Old batteries should not be used in combination with new batteries

    2. Is the print head clean?
Clean the print head with the special brush delivered together with the labelmaker or a cotton bud and a soft solvent (e.g. alcohol).

    3. Is the cassette correctly positioned?
Push the cassette firmly into the compartment in order to make sure it fits at the bottom of the cassette compartment.
Troubleshooting
  • Printing problems
    • The text is printed rather weak on the entire label. (D990012)

      1. The batteries are low (not applicable for DYMO 9000 and DYMO PC-10).

      Solution:

      * it is advised to use only Duracell Alkaline or rechargeable batteries with DYMO machines

      * DYMO machines will not work with Carbon type batteries

      * All batteries used in the machine should be of the same brand

      * Old batteries should not be used in combination with new batteries

      * Check if batteries are correctly inserted (+ on +, - on -)

      2. The contrast is too low.

      Solution:

It may be necessary to use the darkest contrast setting in order to obtain a good print quality.

To change the contrast setting via the keyboard, follow the instructions from the manual in the

      paragraph "Print Contrast".

Register the defective device via www.dymoservice.com.

    • The labelmaker is unable to perform a print action. (D000014)

      1. When the Print button is pressed, the entered text on the display changes into the word DYMO. Then the labelmaker shuts down.

      or

      2. When the Print button is pressed, the entered text on the display blinks a couple of times and exclamation marks are displayed on the screen. Then the labelmaker shuts down.

This is how the labelmaker indicates that the batteries are low.

      Solution:

Check if the batteries are still OK and replace them by new ones if necessary. Make sure the new batteries are of a good quality since it often happens that batteries (even new ones) do not provide the power required by the labelmaker. Use only Alkaline or rechargeable batteries with DYMO machines.

    • White lines or sports appear in the printed text.

Due to heavy use, parts of the print head may get dirty and need cleaning.
      Solution:
      Clean the print head with:

      * the special brush delivered together with the labelmaker
      or
      * a cotton bud and a soft solvent (e.g. alcohol).

If the problem persists, your labelmaker will have to be repaired. Register the defective device via www.dymoservice.com.

    • Exclamation marks (!!!!!) or 'Tape Jam' on display (D030028)

      1. The Labelmaker does not get enough power to print a label.
This is a typical error when the USB-cable is connected to the PC, but without a power adapter or batteries.
A USB-cable supplies enough power to enable the LabelMANAGER 400/450 to do some basic operations, but not enough to print.
      Solution:
Insert batteries or connect the power supply to the Labelmaker.

      2. The tape got jammed inside the labelmaker Solution: Clear the jam or remove the tape from around the rubber transport roller inside the cassette compartment. To avoid damage, make sure not to touch the printhead while performing this action.

      3. There is glue or dust on the cutter blade causing the tape to jam inside the labelmaker.
Every time a label is cut, residue from the label's glue remains on the cutter blade. This is a normal phenomenon when the Labelmaker is frequently used.
      Solution:
It is therefore important to regularly clean the cutter blade in the cassette compartment with either:
the special brush delivered together with the labelmaker
      or
a cotton bud and a soft solvent (e.g. alcohol).

If the problem persists, your labelmaker will have to be repaired. Register the defective device via www.dymoservice.com.

  • Other problems
    • Certain keys do not function properly when pressed. (D990010)

E.g. when the character 'A' is pressed a 'Q' is displayed.

Cause: There is dust or dirt under the keymat.

      Solution:

The labelmaker will have to be cleaned.
Please register the defective machine on www.dymoservice.com.

    • The label is not properly cut. (D99024)

      1. There is glue or dust on the cutter blade.

Every time a label is cut, residue from the label's glue remains on the cutter blade. This is a normal phenomenon when the Labelmaker is frequently used.

      Solution:

It is therefore important to regularly clean the cutter blade in the cassette compartment with either:

      * the special brush delivered together with the labelmaker

      or

      * a cotton bud and a soft solvent (e.g. alcohol).

      2. Objects (e.g. a piece of tape,...) obstructing the cutter blade's normal operation.

      Solution:

Take out the cassette and check that there are no objects in front of the cutter blade (e.g. a piece of tape,...) . Remove all strange objects from the cutter blade and push the cassette firmly back into the compartment in order to make sure it fits properly at the bottom of the cassette compartment.

If the problem persists, your labelmaker will have to be repaired. Register the defective device via www.dymoservice.com.

WARNING: when cleaning the cutter blade or the cassette compartment, make sure the cutter blade is never touched with any metal object as this might reduce the sharpness of the blade.

    • When pressing the print button, there is no tape coming out of the labelmaker. (D990038)

      1. Are the correct batteries being used?

      - it is advised to use only Duracell Alkaline or rechargeable batteries with DYMO machines

      - DYMO machines will not work with Carbon type batteries

      - All batteries used in the machine should be of the same brand

      - Old batteries should not be used in combination with new batteries

      - Check if batteries are correctly inserted (+ on +, - on -)

Best solution is of course to use a DYMO adapter (where possible).

      2. There is no tape cassette in the labelmaker or the tape cassette is at its end.

      Solution:

Replace the cassette by a new one.

      3. The piece of tape is not coming out far enough of the cassette and has no contact with the transport roller.

      Solution:

Pull the tape 5 cm out of the cassette and try again.

      4. The tape is not properly guided through the guidance pins of the cassette while printing.

      Solution:

To check this, take out the cassette and make sure the tape is guided properly through both guidance pins of the cassette.

      5. The cassette is incorrectly positioned inside the cassette compartment.

      Solution:

Push the cassette firmly into the compartment in order to make sure it fits at the bottom of the cassette compartment.

      6. Check if transport is still functional.

      7. There is dust or dirt on the rubber transport roller inside the cassette compartment

      or

the carbon ribbon got wrapped around the rubber transport roller inside the cassette compartment

      Solution:

The rubber transport roller should be cleaned with either:

      * the special brush delivered together with the labelmaker

      or

      * a cotton bud and a soft solvent (e.g. alcohol).

      or

      * the carbon ribbon should be gently removed from around the rubber transport roller inside the cassette compartment.

The best way to do this is by pulling the carbon ribbon gently with the use of a pair of tweezers and meanwhile letting the roller turn by pressing the print button. Make sure not to touch the printhead while performing this action, to avoid damage.

      * the special brush delivered together with the labelmaker

      or

      * a cotton bud and a soft solvent (e.g. alcohol).

If the problem persists, your labelmaker will have to be repaired. Register the defective device via www.dymoservice.com.

    • The text in the display is scrolling (D990044)

This malfunction is caused by an electronic component.

Your labelmaker will have to be repaired. Register the defective device via www.dymoservice.com.
