  • Printing, printed labels
    • The ink ribbon sticks to the label and comes out of the labelmaker

      Problem Details:

When labels are printed, the ink ribbon comes out together with the tape. It seems like the labelmaker has printed the text reversed.

      Possible Cause(s):

      A. The tape has not been used for a while.

      Solution:

      1. Take out the cassette and pull the tape 10 cm out of the cassette.

      2. Wind the ink ribbon somewhat further by turning the black spool in the cassette clockwise until the ribbon is taut and flat.

      3. Reinsert the cassette and print an empty label.

      B. A new cassette was inserted and the ink ribbon was not taut and flat (not for machines with a carbon retensioner).

      Solution:

      1. Wind the ink ribbon somewhat further by turning the black spool in the cassette clockwise until the ribbon is taut and flat.

      2. Reinsert the cassette and print an empty label.

      C. The ink ribbon is broken

      Solution:

Replace the cassette by a new one

    • The characters on the label are printed on top of each other (D000085)

      Possible Cause(s):
-There is dust or dirt on the rubber transport roller inside the cassette compartment
      - The carbon ribbon got wrapped around the rubber transport roller inside the cassette compartment

      Solution:
The rubber transport roller should be cleaned with either:
      - the special brush delivered together with the labelmaker
      - a cotton bud and a soft solvent (e.g. alcohol).
      or
the carbon ribbon should be gently removed from around the rubber transport roller inside the cassette compartment.

The best way to do this is by pulling the carbon ribbon gently with the use of a pair of tweezers and meanwhile letting the roller turn by pressing the print button. Make sure not to touch the printhead while performing this action, to avoid damage.

If the problem persists, your labelmaker will have to be repaired. Register the defective device via www.dymoservice.com.

    • White horizontal lines run through the printed text (D990011)

      Possible Cause (s) :
Due to heavy use, parts of the print head may get dirty and need cleaning.

      Solution:

      Clean the print head with:
the special brush delivered together with the labelmaker
      or
a cotton bud and a soft solvent (e.g. alcohol).

If the problem persists, your labelmaker will have to be repaired. Register the defective device via www.dymoservice.com.

    • White vertical lines run through the printed text.

      POSSIBLE CAUSE(S)

The contrast level is too low.

      Solution:

Increase the contrast level. For help on how to increase the contrast level, please check the manual that was delivered together with the labelmaker.

If the problem persits, your labelmaker will have to be repaired. Return the faulty labelmaker to your dealer, who will handle the repair procedure from there.

    • The text is printed rather weak on parts of the label (D990012)

      Possible Cause(s) :

      1) The batteries are low (not applicable for DYMO 9000 and DYMO PC-10).

      Solution:
      - it is advised to use only Duracell Alkaline or rechargeable batteries with DYMO machines
      - DYMO machines will not work with Carbon type batteries
      - All batteries used in the machine should be of the same brand
      - Old batteries should not be used in combination with new batteries
      - Check if batteries are correctly inserted (+ on +, - on -)

      2) The contrast is too low.

      Solution:
It may be necessary to use the darkest contrast setting in order to obtain a good print quality.
To change the contrast setting via the keyboard, follow the instructions from the manual in the paragraph "Print Contrast".

If the problem persists, your labelmaker will have to be repaired. Register the defective device via www.dymoservice.com.

    • Nothing is printed on the label. An empty label comes out of the labelmaker when trying to print (D990016)

      Possible Cause(s) :
The ink ribbon doesn't move with the label while printing.

      Solution:

Take out the cassette and check if the ink ribbon isn't at its end or isn't broken.

If the problem persists, your labelmaker will have to be repaired. Register the defective device via www.dymoservice.com.

    • When labels are printed, the text is not positioned in the middle of the label, i.e. it is printed either too high or too low (D990017)

      A. The cassette is incorrectly positioned inside the cassette compartment.

      Solution:
Take out the cassette and check that there are no objects left in the cassette compartment (e.g. a paper clip, a piece of tape,...) .
Make sure the tape switch is set to the according tape width.
Push the cassette firmly back into the compartment in order to make sure it fits at the bottom of the cassette compartment.

      B. The tape is not properly guided through the guidance pins of the cassette while printing.

      Solution:
To check this, take out the cassette and make sure the tape is guided properly through both guidance pins of the cassette.

      C. An empty text line is entered on the label.

      Solution:
Remove the unintentional text lines from the label.

To check for extra text lines, take a look at the display screen and make sure there are no text lines added.

A new line is indicated by a hard return sign: <-'
      E.g.<-' <-' DYMO

If the problem persists, your labelmaker will have to be repaired. Register the defective device via www.dymoservice.com.

    • The text is printed tilted. The characters are not printed vertically (D990018)

      Possible cause(s) :

      1. The cassette is incorrectly positioned in the cassette compartment.

      Solution:

Take out the cassette and check that there are no objects in the cassette compartment (e.g. a paper clip, a piece of tape,...) .
Push the cassette firmly back into the compartment in order to make sure it fits at the bottom of the cassette compartment.

      2. The tape is not properly guided through the guidance pins of the cassette while printing.

      Solution:

To check this, take out the cassette and make sure the tape is properly guided through both guidance pins of the cassette.

If the problem persists, your labelmaker will have to be repaired. Register the defective device via www.dymoservice.com.

    • When pressing the print button, there is no tape coming out of the labelmaker (D990038)

      Problem Details :
The tape does not come out of the labelmaker or stops feeding while the label is printed.

      Possible Cause(s) :

      1) Are the correct batteries being used?

      - it is advised to use only Duracell Alkaline or rechargeable batteries with DYMO machines
      - DYMO machines will not work with Carbon type batteries
      - All batteries used in the machine should be of the same brand
      - Old batteries should not be used in combination with new batteries
      - Check if batteries are correctly inserted (+ on +, - on -)
Best solution is of course to use a DYMO adapter (where possible).

      2) There is no tape cassette in the labelmaker or the tape cassette is at its end.

      Solution:
Replace the cassette by a new one.

      3) The piece of tape is not coming out far enough of the cassette and has no contact with the transport roller.

      Solution:
Pull the tape 5 cm out of the cassette and try again.

      4) The tape is not properly guided through the guidance pins of the cassette while printing.

      Solution:
To check this, take out the cassette and make sure the tape is guided properly through both guidance pins of the cassette.

      5) The cassette is incorrectly positioned inside the cassette compartment.

      Solution:
Push the cassette firmly into the compartment in order to make sure it fits at the bottom of the cassette compartment.

      6) Check if transport is still functional.

      7) There is dust or dirt on the rubber transport roller inside the cassette compartment
      or
the carbon ribbon got wrapped around the rubber transport roller inside the cassette compartment

      Solution:
The rubber transport roller should be cleaned with either:
the special brush delivered together with the labelmaker
      or
a cotton bud and a soft solvent (e.g. alcohol).
      or
the carbon ribbon should be gently removed from around the rubber transport roller inside the cassette compartment.

The best way to do this is by pulling the carbon ribbon gently with the use of a pair of tweezers and meanwhile letting the roller turn by pressing the print button. Make sure not to touch the printhead while performing this action, to avoid damage.

      8) There is glue or dust on the cutter blade.
Every time a label is cut, residue from the label's glue remains on the cutter blade. This is a normal phenomenon when the Labelmaker is frequently used.

      Solution:
It is therefore important to regularly clean the cutter blade in the cassette compartment with either:
the special brush delivered together with the labelmaker
      or
a cotton bud and a soft solvent (e.g. alcohol).

If the problem persists, your labelmaker will have to be repaired. Register the defective device via www.dymoservice.com.

    • My labelmaker can only print on 6 mm tape (D000084)

      Problem Details:

When trying to print, nothing happens. Instead, arrows are shown on the display.

All functionality for use with tapes wider than 6 mm are not available

      Possible Cause(s):

The tape switch is set to 6 mm

      Solution:

Set the tape switch inside the cassette compartment according to the width of the used tape.

    • The light on the LMPCII is blinking.

This means that the motor isn't working.

      This can have several reasons:
      A. The cassette is incorrectly positioned inside the cassette compartment.
---> Push the cassette firmly into the compartment in order to make sure
it fits at the bottom of the cassette compartment.
      Also see Document nr D990017

      B. There is no tape transport.
---> Pull the tape 5 cm out of the cassette and try again.
      Also see document nr D990038

      C. Check if the motor isn't broken.
---> When you insert a cassette into the LMPCII,
the motor and the tape transporter will turn for a second.
If not, then the LMPCII is broken.

  • Cutting
    • The label is not properly cut.

      PROBLEM DETAILS:

The label cannot be removed from the labelmaker after the tape has been cut.

The label is not properly cut-off.

      POSSIBLE CAUSE(S):

      1. There is glue or dust on the cutter blade.

Every time a label is cut, residue from the label's glue remains on the cutter blade. This is a normal phenomenon when the Labelmaker is frequently used.

      Solution:

It is therefore important to regularly clean the cutter blade in the cassette compartment with either:

      - the special brush delivered together with the labelmaker

      or

      - a cotton bud and a soft solvent (e.g. alcohol).

      2. Objects (e.g. a piece of tape,...) obstructing the cutter blade's normal operation.

      Solution:

Take out the cassette and check that there are no objects in front of the cutter blade (e.g. a piece of tape,...) . Remove all strange objects from the cutter blade and push the cassette firmly back into the compartment in order to make sure it fits properly at the bottom of the cassette compartment.

If the problem persists, your labelmaker will have to be repaired. Return the faulty labelmaker to your dealer, who will handle the repair procedure from there.

WARNING: when cleaning the cutter blade or the cassette compartment, make sure the cutter blade is never touched with any metal object as this might reduce the sharpness of the blade.
