1. Are the correct labels being used?
LabelWriters
will only function with DYMO labels that have the black squares pattern
printed on the back of the labels.
2. Are the labels incorrectly aligned?
Problem Details:
Because
the spools are not firmly pressed against the labels, the labels start
to shift to the right when printing..
The sensor in the LabelWriter
no longer detects the block pattern at the back side of the labels.
Consequently,
the LabelWriter stops printing and auto feeds approx. 3 labels.
At a
next print assignment, the label roll slightly rewinds and pulls back
the label roll to the sensor.
One or more labels can be printed but
eventually the labels shift again to right and the same problems occur.
Solution:
Push the spool wheel back to the left,
squeezing the labels firmly between the two spool wheels.
Reposition
the labels back to the left.
Visual aid:
3. The error message:"The printer is out of paper" is displayed,
when trying to print.
Only LabelWriters 400 and 400 Turbo
with firmware version AF will experience this problem.
Problem
details:
The error message is produced when:
a. The
LabelWriter has been installed while labels were not yet loaded. The
labels are then loaded.
When trying to print the error message is
displayed.
b. The last label was used. A new label roll hasn't been
loaded while the motor was still runing.
When trying to print the
error message is displayed.
Possible cause:
The
firmware version AF causes this problem.
To check the firmware
version, use the file USBgetver.exe available from the CD-ROM.
Solution:
1.
Make sure labels are loaded, disconnect the LabelWriter's power supply
for a few seconds and reconnect.
Important: Remove remaining
print tasks from the printer queue.
2. Firmware upgrade utility:
For
Windows:
LabelWriter
Firmware Updater Rev AG103 (WIN).exe
For Macintosh:
LabelWriter
Firmware Updater(MAC).zip
Solution:
- Search C:\WINDOWS\INF for the file
NTPRINT.INF
- If it is found, rename it to NTPRINT.OLD
- Go to
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 and copy the file NTPRINT.INF to
C:\WINDOWS\INF
(If there is no ServicePackFiles folder, the customer
needs to install the latest Windows SP
- Delete INFCACHE.1
-
Reboot and install printer
This problem is fixed in the newest DLS.
DYMO has created an
installer to fix this problem.
Simply download and run this file.

1. Locate the file 'supported_printers.reg'
. Default it is located in C:\Program Files>DYMO
Label\supported_printers.reg
2. Right-click the file and click Merge
3.
Click OK
If the problem still persists, import the file in the Registry:
1. On
the windows taskbar, click Start and clickRun
2. Type
'Regedit' and click OK The Registery Editor is started.
3.
On the menu bar, click File and click Import. Locate the
file 'supported_printers.reg'. Default it is located in C:\Program
Files>DYMO Label\supported_printers.reg
4. Click Open
Possible Cause(s):
The security level for macros is set to
High. The DYMO macro is automatically disabled.
Solution:
1. On the menu bar of Microsoft Word 2000, click Tools, point to Macro
and click Security.
2. The Security window is displayed.
3. Select
Low and click OK.
4. Close Microsoft Word 2000.
5. Install the
Word Add-in.
If required, the security setting can now be set back High.
More Information:
This problem was solved in the latest DYMO
LabelWriter Software.
This problem has something to do with the international settings. The
language of the DYMO Label Software has to be the same as the language
in the international settings.
Solution:
1. Make sure DYMO Label Software is closed.
2. To open the
international settings, open the system preferences ( icon 'apple' in
the toolbar) and click on the icon 'International'.
In the tab
'Language' a language list is displayed.
3. If the Macintosh is
running an OS in an English language, British English has to be the
first language in the list.
If the Macintosh is running an OS not in
an English language, the second language in the list should be the same
as the language of DYMO Label Software.
If not, just drag the
language to the first or second place of the list.
E.g.
- If a
English DYMO Label Software has been installed onto an English OS
, British English has to be the first language in the list.
-
If a English DYMO Label Software has been installed onto a Norwegian
OS , British English has to be the second language in
the list.
4. Delete the file 'com.dymo.DYMOlabel.plist.
This file
is located in the folder /users/<username>/Library/Preferences
When reopening DYMO Label Software, the error message is no longer
displayed.
Important notes:
- In all cases, the language can also be placed in first place, but the
OS language will also change then.
- When an English DYMO Label Software has been installed, the language
has to be 'British English' and not 'English' or 'U.S. English'!
If
British English is not available in the list, it has to be added.
To
add it to the list:
1. Click the button "Edit" next to the language
list
2. Select "British English" and press ok.
The
language is now at the bottom of the language list.
Depending on the
above described situations, drag "British English" to the first or
second place of the language list and close the international settings.

Problem Details:
The installation fails when trying
to access the file samplelist.dal, that should be placed in C:\Documents
and Settings\All Users\Documents\DYMO Label\Address Books\
Possible Cause(s):
This is a known issue with
Microsoft.
Solution:
The solution is described at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;897103
Of course the LabelWriters are not designed as photo printers and have
some limitations: - the LabelWriters 300 and 400 series are limited to
300 dpi - the LabelWriters EL40/60/Turbo are limited to to 203 dpi. -
LabelWriters cannot print grey tones, but rather immitate grey tones by
dithering
As a consequence of these limitations, a LabelWriter cannot give the
same print result as e.g. an inkjet or a laser printer.
Next to that, the quality also depends on the quality of the used
picture/photo. A few hints of changes to pictures that could improve the
print quality: - reduce the pixels of the used photos into 300 pixels
per inch - convert the pictures into grey values - use a bitmap (.bmp)
format
Problem Details:
In some cases, books are covered
with self-adhesive transparent material to extend the life of
paperbacks, protect them from spills, dirt and rough handling, to add
strength to paperback books so they stand up on shelving like hardcover
books. etc.
Libraries are a typical example where books are covered.
However,
after some time, the print on label (that has been covered as well)
starts to become vague. Mostly, the label does not discolour.
The DYMO LabelWriters use a direct thermal transfer method (cfr. a fax
machine) to print labels.
There is no ink involved. Hence, these
labels are more sensitive to discoloration than e.g. plastic labels made
with the use of an ink ribbon.
Causing factors can be sun light,
aggressive substances such as glue, acid, etc.
Most likely, a substance in the glue of the self-adhesive cover is
affecting the print on the label.
Solution:
Tips and alternatives to avoid this
discoloration:
Avoid contact between label and glue, e.g.:
after
sticking the label on the book, put a piece of transparent, non-adhesive
material over the label, before covering the book.
first cover the
book. Then stick the label on the cover (to avoid contact with the glue).
Ask
the supplier of the covers for advise on the glue or known alternatives.
Use
a D1 labelling system, such as a DYMO LabelMANAGER PC or a DYMO
LabelMANAGER 450. These machines use plastic labels in combination with
an ink ribbon. The DYMO Helpdesk can give you more information in this
matter.
Together with the DYMO LabelWriter a cleaningcard was delivered.
Feed
this card a few times through the LabelWriter, in order to remove label.
If the label remains stuck, try to gently pull it out of the LabelWriter.
If the problem persists, the Labelwriter needs to be repaired. Return
the LabelWriter to your dealer, who will handle the repair procedure
from there.
POSSIBLE CAUSE(S)
The LabelWriter has a
photocell or optical sensor to detect the beginning and the end of a
label. This sensor, in conjunction with the labels and the printer
mechanism determine how far a label advances during printing. The
problem may be caused by:
The label
Solution:
1. Make sure DYMO labels are being used
and that there is an oval hole between each label. Only DYMO labels are
LabelWriter compatible.
2. Make sure the oval hole between each label
is at the left side in the LabelWriter.
The optical sensor is dirty
Solution:
Together with the
LabelWriter, a cleaning card was delivered in the package.
Feed this
card a couple of times through the LabelWriter. The roller, optical
sensor and print head will be cleaned.
The optical sensor is damaged
Solution:
Return the faulty
labelmaker to your dealer, who will handle the repair procedure from
there.
Possible cause:
The option 'Allow the computer to
turn off this device to save power' is checked.
To turn this function off:
1. On the Windows task bar, click Start
and click Control Panel.
The Control Panel
is displayed.
2. Double-click System .
The System
Properties is displayed.
3. On the tab page Hardware,
click Device Manager button.
The Device Manager is
displayed.
4. Expand the section Universal Serial Bus
controllers by clicking the + sign.
5.
Right-click every USB Root Hub, click Properties and on
the Power Manegement, uncheck 'Allow the computer to
turn off this device to save power'.
6. Restart the computer
Cause:
This problem can occur when e.g. copy/pasting
addresses from web pages.
These address lines are likely to be
separated by Shift+Enter and the DYMO Label Software does not recognise
this SHIFT-ENTER function. As a result, they are replaced by squares.
The
same applies when using Shift+Enter directly in Word.
Solution:
Instead of pasting the address and its web formating into Word, only
paste the text.
1. On the Word menu bar, click Edit,
click Paste special.
The Paste Special
dialog box is displayed.
2. Select Unformatted text
and click OK.
The address is pasted without
Shift+Enter and can be properly used with the Word Add-in.
